vfree.tv Wins Main Award in German Startup Competition
On March 3rd, 2010 and within the high-tech setting of Cebit, the world largest computer show in Hannover, Germany, State Secretary Hans-Joachim Otto awarded vfree.tv with one of the five main awards of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology for innovative new business ideas in the area of multimedia.
In a highly competitive setup, marking an all-time-high of 212 submissions, vfree.tv was selected to be one of the top 5 companies who convinced the jury by its outstanding concept, technology and business plan. In an award ceremony, opened by the CIO of Lufthansa, Dr. Thomas Endres, the importance of a vivid startup-culture was highly emphasized. "There are still too few people with promising business ideas who take the risk to establish a company and to run their own business. The support for creating new businesses will therefore become one of the important cornerstones of the current legislative period" said State Secretary Hans-Joachim Otto. Handing over the award to vfree.tv he especially highlighted the excellent fit between the effort of the German government to substantially increase the broadband coverage until 2014 and the innovative service concept submitted by vfree.tv. "This is exactly what we are looking for", he said.
